Conventional residential toilet clearance is not enough for wheelchair access or many assisted-use situations.

Does the ADA Apply to a Private Home?
A conventional owner-occupied private home is not automatically subject to the ADA Standards.

Inward-Swinging Bathroom Doors
An inward-swinging door may:
- Hit the toilet
- Reduce front clearance
- Block the sink

Before changing a door to swing outward, verify hallway clearance, egress, hardware, and local requirements.
Pocket Doors
